
Kapidan Nikoll Gjomarkaj was born in Orosh, Mirdita in 1928.
In 1945, at the age of 17, he was taken into custody with the rest of the family of Kapidan Gjon Markagjoni and sent to the Tepelena internment camp.
In 1949, Nikoll along with 9 of his friends he escaped the camp and made his way into Yugoslavia where he remained for the next 7 years, until he was allowed to join his father Gjon and brother Ndue in Rome in 1956.
In Rome he would become even more active in the BKI alongside his brother.
In 1963 Nikoll married and moved to Germany for a period, always being involved with the BKI through intense activity in the media, working for Radio Free Europe and the magazine “Lajmtari i te Merguemit”.
Nikoll moved to the USA in the late 1960’s and was ultimately joined by his brother Ndue and his family in 1971.
He passed away peacefully in 2018. A beloved father, uncle and friend to all!
