Biographies – Ademi thru Bushati

This biographical list dates between 1950-1952 and is among the documents of the personal library of Kapidan Ndue Gjon Gjomarkaj.

ADEMI (PASHKO ADEMI): 29 years old from Raje (Morturi), married, currently in the mountains fighting for the resistance, joined Nik’s mission where he provided services. He is a nephew of Mirakaj.

AGA (MUFTAR AGA): From Mali i Zi, notable (Vojvode1), brother of Sali Aga, members of a large and influential family.

AHMETI (SELIM AHMETI): Under-Lieutenant of the Albanian Army, dismissed for being anti-communist. Tele Nik 9.9.50.

ALIJA (BRAH ALIJA): 65 years old, notable (Vojvode) from Shishen. Belongs to a large and influential family. He has always had very close ties with Mirakaj.

ALIJA (MARKA DODE ALIJA): 50 years old from Qafa e Malit, Bajrak2 of Spac, married with children, ex-aspiring veteran, landowner, he fought taking part in the fights against the communists in 1944. Very capable individual who is very well liked by the other Bajraks, he also has very close friends in Puka. He is a friend of Pal Bib Mirakaj. He lent his services alongside the group of Gjon’s mission. Currently he is a refugee in Jugoslavia.

ARIFI (HAN ARIFI): From Hejdani, Gashi, 60 years old. Very intelligent but scheming.

ASHTA (PALUSHI GJUSH ASHTA): 35 years old from Shkoder, Albania, ex-Captain of the Albanian Army who went to the Military Academy in Modena, very capable, cultured and of good character. He was dismissed for being anti-communist. Very useful individual.

ASHT (ZEF ASHTA): From Shkoder, Albania, around 35 years old, e-Captain of the Albanian Army who attended the Military Academy in Modena successfully. Very capable officer, loyal. He was dismissed for being anti-communist. Tele Nik 9.9.50. Very useful individual.

AVDIJA (NIMAH AVDIJA): From Terthore, Kabash. Is Bajraktar3 of Kabashi from a large family of 20 members. Is cousin to Shpend Halili. Was nominated Captain during the anti-communist resistance in 1944.

BAJRAKTARI (LLESH MELYSHI BAJRAKTARI): 58 years old from Kethella, Mirdita, married with children. Said Bajraktar was killed by the communists in retribution to the killing of the notorious Bardhok Biba. Tele Nik 4.2.950.

BAJRAKTARI (PJETER GJIN BAJRAKTARI): While working in support of the group of Gjon’s mission was killed while on duty. Tele Nik July 1951.

BAJRAKTARI (MARK FRROK BAJRAKTARI): 42 years old from Puka, married with children. Ex-under Lieutenant of the Militia, went into hiding to join the anti-communist resistance.

BAJRAKTARI (MARKA NDUE BAJRAKTARI): 39 years old from the Bajrak of Kushne. Ex-Captain of the district of Sh’Pal and son of the well known Ndue Bajraktari. Very courageous and intelligent individual. He was killed during a skirmish with the communists in 1949. Tele Nik 16.1.950.

BAJRAMI (HASAN BAJRAMI): From Mal i Zi, Trueni. Belongs to one of the first families. Hasan is the father of Rustem Hasan, Secretary of the Refugee Committee in Jugoslavia who now goes by the name Rustem Thaci. He’s related to the Mirakajs.

BARDHOKU (NIKOLL BARDHOKU): From Kathella, Mirdita, married with children, Bajraktar of Kethelle. He was shot by the communists in retaliation to the killing of Bardhok Biba. Tele Nik 4.2.50.

BARDHOKU (NIKOLLE NDREU BARDHOKU): From Kethelle, Mirdita, 65 years old. While remaining in his own house he lent services to Ndue Gjergji who was attached to the group of Gjon Gjinaj’s mission.

BAZJONI (ZEF NDUE BAZJONI): From Bazja, Kethelle, 37 years old, married, went into hiding in 1947 joining the anti-communist resistance.

BECI (SHAQIR BECI): Under-Lieutenant of the Army, dismissed for being anti-communist. Tele Nik 9.9.50.

BEKA (SHABAN BEKA): From Iballe of Puka, married with children. Does not belong to any known family but is very able and courageous. He is cousin to the Bajraktar from Iballe and friend to Mirakaj.

BEKTESHI (DUL BEKTESHI): From Shkoder, Albania. Based on the information Nik received from Hil Shllaku, Officer of the Gendarmerie, he is a fierce anti-communist.

BELESHI (GJERGJ BELESHI): Married. Was shot by the communist in retaliation to the killing of Bardhok Biba. Tele Nik 4.2.50.

BELEZHI (DODE KEC BELEZHI): 50 years old from Kethelle. Was married with two sons, landowner, very good, influential. Finding himself in hiding, he was killed fighting against the communists.

BERDICA (LEC GJUSH BERDICA): 37 years old from Shkoder, Albania, ex-Captain of the Albanian Army who completed the Military Academy in Modena, cultured and very good as well as loyal. He was dismissed from the service for being anti-communist. He’s a very useful individual.

BEQIRI (REXHEP BEQIRI): From Bytyc, ex-Captain of the Albanian Army and well known in Bytyc. He was dismissed for being anti-communist. Tele Nik 9.9.50.

BIBA (DOD MARKA BIBA aka DOD MARKA BIB NIKOLLI): Married who was shot by the communists in retaliation to the murder of Bardhok Biba. Tele Nik 4.2.950.

BIBA (DOD NIKOLL BIBA): Very loyal and good, volunteered to join the group of Gjon Gjinaj’s mission.

BISHTI (PJETER GJET BISHTI): 53 years old from Bazeja, married. While performing his duties, in support of Gjon’s mission, he was killed. Tele Nik July 1951.

BUSHATI (FADIL BUSHATI of HYSEJN): Around 50 years old of the aristocratic family of the Vizers 4of Shkodra who tried to create an independent principality in the North of Albania between the 18th and early 19th centuries. His father Hysejn was killed by the Turks. His brother Maliq Bej, was one of the best known personalities of Albanian politics: ex-President of the Ministers’ Council of Albania; ex-Minister of Interior; Deputy of Shkodra for all the current legislations between the Albania State and the advent of communism, was shot in 1945 by communists after suffering terrible tortures and a lengthy trial. Sin Fadil, and his brother Haki herewith mentioned, enjoy grat influence with all the population of Shkodra, especially the ones belonging to the Mohammedan religion. The Bushati family, through the ages, has always been tied to that of the Gjomarkaj. Fadil Bushati was also mentioned in Nik’s messages, referred by Hil Shllaku, for his anti-communist feelings.

BUSHATI (HAKI BUSHATI of HYSEJN): 47 years old, younger brother of the aforementioned Fadil who was also mentioned in Nik’s message of 28.1.950. They appear as members of the League of the Mountains, nationalist organization at large for the liberation of Albania. Additionally, both brothers had all their properties confiscated by the communists.
